Day 1 | August 15

St. Johns
Arrive at the St. John’s International Airport (flight time TBA) where you will meet your Atlantic Tours Guide and Driver. Transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. Overnight Delta Hotel by Marriott St. John’s or similar.

Day 2 | August 16

St. John's and Quidi Vidi village
Breakfast

Be immersed in the history and culture of St. John’s, Canada’s oldest and most distinctive city, on a tour this morning. Rising spectacularly from the water’s edge, St. John’s combines a modern city with small town hospitality. See the quaint side streets of a thousand colours, the Victorian architecture of the downtown area, the busy modern waterfront, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, charming Quidi Vidi village and the panoramic view from Signal Hill. Return to your hotel where the remainder of the day is free to explore on your own. Overnight Delta Hotel by Marriott St. John’s or similar.

Day 3 | August 17

Witless Bay and Cape Spear
Breakfast and Lunch

Start your day a little later this morning. Then, set off to visit Witless Bay Ecological Reserve and take an educational and entertaining boat tour to view whales and many seabirds, including puffins. You will also visit the most easterly point in North America which houses the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland and Labrador, Cape Spear National Historic Site, before returning to St. John’s for a free evening. Be sure to visit George Street which houses more pubs than any other street in North America! Overnight Delta Hotel by Marriott St. John’s or similar.

Day 4 | August 18

Clarenville
Breakfast and Dinner

Depart St. John’s this morning as you set off to explore the Baccalieu Trail on the peninsula between Conception Bay and Trinity Bay. Travel to the charming village of Brigus. Pass by Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site, home of Captain Bob Bartlett, the ice pilot who guided Robert Peary on his polar expedition in 1908. Continue your journey to Cupid’s Cove where you will stop at The Plantation: home to Canada’s first English settlers. Also visit Harbour Grace, where Amelia Earhart began her solo flight across the Atlantic in 1932. Visit Heart’s Content Cable Station Provincial Historic Site where the first successful transatlantic cable was received in 1866. Travel to the Clarenville area where you will stay the night. Overnight St. Jude Hotel or similar.

Day 5 | August 19

Twillingate and Grand Falls-Windsor
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Today travel to the charming outport of Twillingate, just at the entrance to Notre Dame Bay. It is one of Newfoundland’s oldest seaports and during the 1800’s was the most active and prosperous community in northern Newfoundland. Learn about the area’s history, the great seal hunt and its famous opera singer during your time at the local museum. Learn about Newfoundland & Labrador’s fishing heritage during a visit to The Prime Berth. During a guided tour, see a living historic fishing premises, complete with a traditional fisherman’s wharf, bark pots, puncheons, splittin’ table for the once abundant northern cod. Stop at Auk Island Winery (an unusual sight in Newfoundland) for a tour and tasting. Stay tonight in Grand Falls-Windsor. Overnight Mount Peyton Hotel or similar.

Day 6 | August 20

Gros Morne and Cow Head
Breakfast and Dinner

Travel through the harsh interior wilderness to Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the highlights of your trip. Situated on the west coast of the island, the park provides a rare example of the process of continental drift, where deep ocean crust and the rocks of the earth’s mantle lie exposed. Most recent glacial action has resulted in some spectacular scenery, with coastal lowland, alpine plateau, fjords, glacial valleys, sheer cliffs, waterfalls and many pristine lakes. This fantastic area abounds with natural beauty and splendor...fjords, mountains and spectacular ocean scenery. View the famous Tableland Mountains and visit the Discovery Centre, on your way to Cow Head where you will stay two nights. Overnight Shallow Bay Motel or similar.

Day 7 | August 21

Cow Head

Today enjoy a *scenic boat tour (weather permitting) as you learn the geology of the Tablelands, see the bald eagles that frequent the deep waters of the fjord, and hear the history of the small villages nestled on the shores. It is an unforgettable experience; some say the scenery is unequaled in eastern Canada. Visit the Broom Point fishing exhibit. The marine mammals, birds, and fish of the cold Gulf waters have attracted people to this site for more than 2,300 years. Today, the site consists of a cabin and a fish store restored to the way they were when the Mudge family lived and worked there in the 1960s. Boats built by the family are exhibited in the fish store alongside nets, traps, and other home-made gear. Overnight Shallow Bay Motel or similar.

Day 8 | August 22

Port Aux Choix and St. Anthony
Breakfast and Dinner

See the Arches Provincial Park, with its interesting rock formations. Continue your journey up the coast stopping at Port aux Choix National Historic Site. L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site—a UNESCO World Heritage Site is your next stop. The reconstructions of three Norse buildings are the focal point of this archaeological site, the earliest known European settlement in the New World. Exhibits and artifacts highlight the Viking lifestyle and the archaeological discovery of the site. Stop at The Dark Tickle Company Economuseum. A guide will take you along an interpretive trail to a typical Newfoundland bog where wild berries, such as bakeapple, partridge and squash berries, thrive in their native habitat. Afterwards, relish a sampling of products made with local berries. Arrive in St. Anthony for your overnight. Overnight Hotel North or similar.

Day 9 | August 23

St. Anthony and Deer Lake
Breakfast and Dinner

Enjoy a morning whale watching boat tour in St. Anthony (weather permitting). Your destination is the scenic coastal waters off St. Anthony known as Iceberg Alley. This area has the largest concentration of icebergs in Newfoundland (best seen in June & early July) and is one of the best locations in North America for whale watching. It is also inhabited by some of nature’s most fascinating sea caves and bird life—bald eagles, black guillemots and arctic terns. Re-trace your journey down the shore and back to Gros Morne National Park. Visit Rocky Harbour and see Lobster Cove Head lighthouse which has marked the marine approach to Rocky Harbour and the entrance of Bonne Bay since 1897. The light is still run by the Canadian Coast Guard. It is now automated, but the lightkeeper’s house is open as a park interpretive exhibit. Continue to Deer Lake for your overnight. Overnight Deer Lake Motel or similar.
